Vito is 36 months old.
Hello everyone! It’s been awhile! We’re having minor fixes at home thus, the lack of updates and posts. But I am so happy to say, that Vito is FINALLY interested with letters! He’s currently showing eagerness in learning how to write and read letters. You can check our updates and photos in my Instagram account. So expect A LOT of letter/phonics/reading activities in the coming days… and months from us!
To start with, we played a BINGO game early this week and I was so happy that Vito loved and enjoyed it!
I was hesitant at first, but to my surprise, the BINGO game was a hit! He worked on it until we finished all the letters in the bucket! Where did I get this idea? From my experience with Mavi! At 20 months, Mavi was already obsessed with letters and this beginning letter sound BINGO game was his favorite activity. We used to play this everyday using some magnetic letters
So that’s what I exactly did here with Vito. First, I made him some BINGO sheets (FREE Beginning Sound BINGO Sheets), and placed the magnetic letters in a bucket. I made him pick one letter at a time, asked him the sound of the letter and searched for the object that starts with it. To select the correct object, I would point to three images and say the name, emphasizing the beginning letter sound. And when it’s his turn to match the letter, I would say “cah cah cah is for….?” And he would answer “cat!” and put the letter on the picture.
Note though, if you try this activity, make sure that your child is already familiar with letters and the sounds they make. If you skim through my blog, we’ve been learning letter sounds since early this year and Vito knows all the 26 letters already. My focus right now is for him to associate letters and sounds with words through pictures or objects, this is one preparation for learning how to read. In the photo below Vito is summarizing the game, pointing to each picture, making the letter sound and naming the object. He’s like “ha ha is for hat, nnnn is for net…”.
This activity will stay in our shelf for awhile. This reminds me to take a photo of his activity trays for this month. I usually rotate activities every two weeks but this will probably stay a little bit longer in the shelf.
