Letter of the Week: A

Our Week A went by smoothly, and Max worked on the activities instantly, the reason why the Letter of the Week A was only good for one week (moving on to B next). Here are some of the activities for Max this week:

SOUND AND VOCABULARY

Max loves matching our sound basket objects to our A Poster, cards, and My 'a' Book.  

He also loves to play the Memory Game. 

LETTER RECOGNITION

Max enjoys identifying letters, but he calls them out randomly. So to practice his letter recognition skills, I had our sandpaper letter display on the shelf and had him place the letter 'a' on our picture cards to associate the sound to the letter and pictures.

Sorting uppercase and lowercase letters are included in our curriculum, but Max is not interested in it yet. Here's a preview of what it looks like for the letter ' a.

Another activity for letter recognition is by using these dot markers. All my three kids enjoy this activity. (Only available in BUNDLE here and here)

LETTER FORMATION

We are not learning how to write the letters yet, but using the letters to enhance our fine motor skills, pencil grasp and strengthen hand muscles by coloring, covering and forming the letters using manipulatives like blocks, wax sticks, paints, markers etc.

CENTERS:  SHAPES

Making learning letters sounds fun, so I added center activities. For shapes, Max is sorting our apple fruits based on the shapes of the trees.

CENTERS:  COLOR

Matching alligators.

CENTERS:  COUNTING

Placing the correct number of apples on the tree. This is an excellent way to practice counting.

Forming the numbers with playdough while counting the number of pictures on the right. This is an excellent way for 1:1 correspondence and number recognition.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS

There are plenty of activities for fine motor skills too! Max loves working on markers the most!
