Teaching Kids About their Lungs

Saturday, May 21, 2016

I forgot to share this simple activity we did during our Body Unit week.  The boys had so much fun learning how their lungs work using our homemade lung materials!
The material itself is no brainer. All you need is a straw, plastic bag and a string or sticky tape.  To make the lungs, attach each plastic bag at the end of each straw using a sticky tape.  Then stick the straw together as shown in the picture below:
If you have older kids, you might want to explain or discuss to them what each material represents. The book we are using is from Usborne entitled See Inside Your Body (Amazon US). You can also order it from Book Depository, they deliver for free worldwide!

Then, let your kids blow in and out of the straw and show them how the plastic bags expand and deflate just like their lungs when they are breathing!

I hope you enjoy this activity and try it at home for more fun and learning! Happy blowing!
