Using the Addition Clipcards

Monday, November 19, 2018

Enjoy the fun in learning addition with this winter-themed addition clipcards.  Vito is currently obsessed with adding numbers so I made these clipcards  for him to work on, to enrich his skills for addition.  These are so easy to prepare and use.  Below are the recommended manipulatives that you can use to go along with the cards, for hands-on approach in learning addition.

Our winter clipcard set is basically designed to go along with our Montessori Addition Strip Board.  Initially it has addition facts from 1-9, but I added 10s so those who are non-Montessori users can enjoy the clipcards as well.  This is Vito working on our addition facts 1 and 2 using the Addition Strip Board.

The activity is straight forward, I presented the card, first addend is blue, and second addend is red. To get the answer, the child will lay out the strip of cards corresponding the equation and from here, he will be able to get the answer.

Use clothe pegs or craft pegs to mark your answers.  I highly recommend that you work on this with your child starting from fact families 1 and then gradually introduce the next set to the child.  Vito worked on these sets in one sitting, so I need to print bigger numbers to add challenge.

Of course, this is just one type of learning material that you can use with your child.  Other ways are by using manipulatives like glass pebbles, snapcubes, numicon, Montessori beads or mini erasers. Here are some of the ways we worked on these cards.

Here Vito represented the equation using snapcubes, numicon and Montessori beads.

The learning material comes with recording sheets so the child can track the clipcards that he/she has worked on or just to record his/her answers. You can these cards by clicking here or the picture below. Enjoy!
