Days of the Creation for Preschoolers

Sunday, April 9, 2017

In our home, we would read Bible stories and relived some beautiful stories during the Lenten season.  We are approaching it in a spiritual manner (for faith formation) rather than doing lots of egg activities.  Mavi and I have been talking about the Exodus the other day, while Vito and I did the Days of Creation.  This post shares our little project in learning about the great story of God’s creation of the world.   I’m also sharing our kid-friendly Bible which we are using at home.

So basically, these are mini crafts project intended for my 3 years old.  It requires skills like gluing, cutting, and understanding a few of vocabulary words.  I initially prepared these reading cards (for me) to guide us with our project.  It’s simply a number and the story of what God has created on that day.  I copied the text from the Bible so I can’t distribute it due to copyrights.

FIRST DAY:  GOD MADE THE LIGHT AND IT WAS GOOD
So simple to make, just a white and black cardstock!DSC_7599

SECOND DAY:  GOD MADE THE SKY AND IT WAS GOOD
Using a blue cardstock, we placed a few cottons to make a sky.

THIRD DAY:  GOD MADE THE SEA AND LAND, AND IT WAS GOOD
Reusing some cardstock scraps and stickers, we made the sea and the land.

FOURTH DAY:  GOD MADE THE STARS, SUN AND MOON, AND IT WAS GOOD
We made some stars using our circle and star punchers.  These turned out absolutely beautiful when Vito glued them in a black cardstock!

FIFTH DAY:  GOD MADE THE FISH AND BIRDS, AND IT WAS GOOD
Since I didn’t own any birds and fish stickers I printed a few images, cut them using a precision knife and Vito glued them in our simple backdrop.  The birds are in the sky, while he placed the sea animals in the blue area (sea).

SIXTH DAY: GOD MADE ALL THE ANIMALS AND MAN, AND IT WAS GOOD
We made this using the foam stickers which I collected through the years.  Vito enjoyed peeling the paper at the back of the stickers Open-mouthed smile which was a great opportunity to practise some fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination!

SEVENTH DAY:  GOD RESTED
This one is pretty simple because I ran out of idea how we can make God rest, so I decided to put an image of him sleeping with stars in the background.

All in all, both Vito and I were happy of what we came up with.  Mavi was even impressed because it’s way more better compared to his activity around Vito’s age.
And for those who wanted to know, we are using The Story Bible which I bought from Amazon.  Beautiful book, with realistic images.  The text are in medium size, so kids can easily read them. You can check my video of the book here in my Instagram account.

This the #bible Im using with the boys. So east to read, with the right size of text and most especially it has beautiful and realistic illustrations. There's also some activities and prayers for the child in each story.

What great ideas! Thank you for sharing! What did you use for the numbers with the pictures inside? Did you draw those yourself?
