Last week, Vito and I revisited world biomes and animal habitats as we were talking about the fact that not all places in the world have forest whose leaves turn into yellow or orange. This discussion led to a series of presentation of the world’s biome like desert, rainforest, taiga etc. Our printable from the shop was very handy when I presented this Vito because of the pictures, and he was very interested on the animals living on each biome.
Then just out of nowhere, he started collecting leaves from the front yard, and saying “Mommy, this is our forest” (he meant a deciduous forest). He took the picture and matches the tray of leaves to our deciduous forest photo. I added the animals living in it, and discuss a little bit about how the animals in this habitat blend with its nature.
For the grassland, I use our synthetic grass material to represent grasslands of the world.
If you noticed, I asked Vito to feel the grass after he matched the animal figures to the picture cards. I told him that animals in this habitat eats grass as their main source of food.
Lastly, we have the desert which consists of a our kinetic sand and desert animals.
It was a short but meaningful activity of learning and imaginative play all at the same time. Next time, we’ll do the tundra, taiga and rainforest.
If you are interested with the printable materials we used in this activity, you can check in our shop for more details (click image below or here).
