4th of July Math and Literacy Centers

Sunday, June 3, 2018

This 4th of July Math and Literacy Centers for preschoolers and kindergarten was made to provide for the needs of our American friends all around the world.  This learning pack is perfect for schools and homeschoolers who are doing work and "school" during summer.  Below is a preview of what you can expect in this learning set. Enjoy!

4th of July Math and Literacy Centers
Our 4th of July Mini Unit Preschool Learning Pack includes 11 preschool learning activities (with EXCLUSIVE FREEBIES) that are designed for preschoolers, pre-k, and kindergarteners. Checkout our other Preschool Mini Units in our shop if you are looking for more.

You will need some of these materials which will provide opportunities for hands-on learning and fine motor skills:
  • Colored wooden pegs, snap cubes or counters
  • Dry erase pens, chalk markers, writing pencils or colored pencils
  • Crayons
  • kid-friendly scissors

Beginning Letter Clipcards

Use these beginning letter clipcards to go along with our picture cards in learning the vocabulary words and identifying the beginning letter sound of each of the Fourth of July icons and symbols.  This activity is great for practicing phonics and letter sounds.

Tracing Letters and Numbers

Trace the alphabets and numbers with these Fourth of July themed tracing cards. These are perfect for kids who are in summer camps or daycare centers over the summer or to families who are doing homeschool all throughout summer.

Vocabulary Writing and Coloring Strips

This is a fantastic extension work in learning vocabulary and spelling.  Kids will be able to learn how to spell the words (and eventually read them) through coloring and tracing strips.  I also recommend that once done, you let the child assemble these strips into a booklet where they can bring home for reading practice.

Ten Frames

Practice counting and number recognition with ten frames. There's so much to learn in ten frames: a better understanding of number sense, learn how to compose and decompose numbers, identify 5 and 10 visually and more!

4th of July Ten Frames
Use any counters or even playdough in your ten frames to make the count indicated in the sheet.

1-20 Counting Clipcards

Another favorite are the counting clipcards.  We love using glass nuggets or wooden pegs with this set.  For young kids, start with 1-5 cards, then add 6-10 and eventually go up to 20 as the student progresses.  Don't introduce all of the cards all at once as it can be overwhelming to the child and will lead to exhaustion.

Shapes Spin and Cover

This is a fun game of identifying and naming shapes.  Spin and cover the flag shapes resulting from the spin with any manipulatives available. Be sure to name the shape to your child (if he/she doesn't know it yet) or encourage the child to name the shape resulting from the spin (if he's familiar with it already).

Tracing Lines

These tracing strips are great for practicing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. We love using chalk markers in our home, but any erasable markers will do!
