Winter Themed 1-10 Counting Activities

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

If you love themed activities, you will surely love these winter counting printable activities we have in the shop.  These materials promote hands-on mathematics and enable children to practice writing and do some fine motor skill works.

Ten Frames

Vito enjoys these “scenic” ten frames as I often call them. Currently, we have 3 different beautiful designs that can go along with any of your winter themes.  Here Vito is working on our kids winter themed ten frames.  He was disappointed that it didn’t snow here last Christmas so I gave him a few snowy themed activities.  There are two types of activities included in our one to ten counting ten frames.

Winter Themed Ten Frames Counting Activity
The first activity is for number identification and counting.  The child has to count the objects in the picture and place the corresponding counters on the ten frames to match the count in the picture.  The child will then place (or write) the number symbol of the count in the box.

Alternatively, you can use number cards if your students or children are not yet into writing numbers.  I included a printable version of the number cards in the learning pack as well.  We are using the wooden number cards from our Montessori Wooden Number Cards in the picture below.

The other activity included in the pack is the tracing version of the ten frames.  Here, the child will trace the number symbol and the word then place the corresponding number of counters in the ten frame.

Counting Mats

Another favorite counting activity at home is our counting mats.  These thematic counting playdough mats are so popular in our shop!  There are two versions of winter counting mats available in the shop:  the Mittens Counting Playdough Mats and the Snowflakes Counting Playdough Mats.  In the picture below, Vito is using our mitten counting mats.  He uses white playdough to make snowballs as counters.  Such a fun way to learn how to count and practice fine motor skills!

I totally love these snowflakes craft embellishments that I made another “snowy” themed counting mats for Vito.  We used the snowflakes as counters and here’s Vito placing the correct number of snowflakes falling on the kid in the picture mats.

Happy counting!
