The Story of Christmas - Sequencing Activity

Friday, November 29, 2019

This morning, Vito and I had a wonderful time working on our Nativity Sequencing Story.  It's our way of welcoming and celebrating Advent.  For the past few days, we've been reading different books on the story of Christmas and today we worked on some extension activities to practice some skills that I will be mentioning below.

The Story of Christmas - Sequencing Activity

Story Sequencing: Objectives

  • Reading comprehension
  • Learning how to retell a story
  • Learning how to sequence a story or events
  • Answering questions
  • Articulation in conversation

Story Sequencing: CUT AND PASTE ACTIVITY

Kids love cut and paste activities!  They find it engaging, especially that it helps them practice their scissor skills.  This set is so simple to do. Cut out the pictures and order them on the mats provided.

You can either choose the set that's with definition or the ones with pictures only.  It all depends on your child's or student's capability to work on this material.  Black and white version is also provided for coloring purposes.  Some kids prefer coloring the images plus you can save on ink!

There are 2 sets available here:
  • 6 steps story sequence (for beginners)
  • 12 steps story sequence (for advance learners)

Story Sequencing: READING STRIPS

This set is perfect for beginning readers.  The main focus of this material is for the child to be able to order the events in the story by reading the strips, rather than focusing on the images.  The child will  read the story of Nativity and arrange the events in order. In our case, we used a pocket chart to order the sequence of the story and as an option you can also use ordinal numbers alongside it.

Story Sequencing: Reading Strips
Vito loves using these strips as he enjoys reading the sentences.

Story Sequencing: READING AND SEQUENCING CARDS

Another option that I added on the story pack is the "card" version of the strips. Some children aren't comfortable reading yet, so these cards are a great alternative. Use these cards when your child isn't reading yet. The images are bigger here in the cards (compared to the reading strips) to give emphasis on the visual perception of the child rather than the reading skills.
