I finally started working with the Pink Series alongside Max. I have had these materials for a while, as I previously used them with my older kids. However, I recently updated each set to include extension activities. You can read about our journey with the Pink Series here and here.
Here’s how I set up our Pink Series on the shelf. The objective is to focus on six words with the same middle sound in each lesson, then move on to the next set of six words with a different middle sound. We will start by targeting words with the middle sound 'a', followed by 'e', 'i', and so on.
Details of the printables are below
3 PART CARDS
We use this set to introduce CVC words through a Montessori approach over three lesson periods.
We will use picture cards to create CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words with Montessori movable letters.
EXTENSION ACTIVITY: TAP AND READ
For further practice, we will use these cards. Max enjoys using the fidget blocks and his pointer finger while we make the letter sounds.
EXTENSION ACTIVITY: SEE AND SPELL
Inspired by an old wooden toy we received from Melissa and Doug, my son matches the letters on the cards to their movable alphabet and reads the words.
EXTENSION ACTIVITY: BEGINNING AND ENDING SOUND
This is a bit more challenging, but it is a nice addition when your child is a skilled CVC reader and wants to master phonetic skills.
EXTENSION ACTIVITY: SNAP IT AND MEMORY GAME
Extra-large cards for playing the Snap It game or the Memory Game.
Each PINK SERIES set in our shop includes 18 words or pictures. We will rotate the sets once or twice a week, based on my son's progress.
