Go Find It: A Montessori Friendly Summer Game

Sunday, May 27, 2018

If you are looking for ways to entertain your kids during the summer days (longer days), here’s one of the games that we love to play after dinner.  Yes after dinner!  My kids are finding it hard to sleep nowadays  because our sunset is literally around 9-9:30PM.  So for this 12 Months of Montessori Series, I am sharing Go Find It, a FUNtastic outdoor game for kids of all ages!

Go Find It: A Montessori Friendly Summer Game
I first read about this in How We Montessori blog.  I knew I just have to get it for the boys because we have large open spaces in our area and we mostly spend our afternoons/evenings in the park.  So having a Go Find It game will make our nights and visits to the park purposeful.

Go Find It is like a scavenger hunt game that make use of the child’s senses.  There are 32 cards which contain commands that represent different sensations. The game asks the player to look for those sense based characteristics in nature’s objects.  Cards like “furry”, “snap”, “that smells” are some of my kids’ favorites! Each card has a picture to help describe the command written in it. Best of all, you can play this game anywhere (indoors or outdoors or maybe while traveling)!

GO FIND IT CARDS
First, we shuffled the cards and Vito picked the one on top.

Since he can’t read yet, he would describe the picture in the card (pretending to read at the same time) and then he gives back the card, for me to read.  Then he would start looking for the object described in the card. Here, he is looking for something “tiny”.

Looking for something that “snaps”.

And here’s something that’s “spiky”.  And kids do bring you a lot of surprises when doing this sensorial scavenger hunt, so be prepared!

The cards are so handy! I often bring them in the open fields or park if we just wanted to kill time.  Oh did I mention that these are great for children’s party too?

So if you are looking for simple and inexpensive game this summer, I highly recommend Go Find It!.  Have fun!
