Materials needed:
- cut-out leaves or punched leaves (we are using this maple leaf puncher)
- playdough (alternative)
- colored cardstocks
- Fall Leaves Counting Mats
- Do a Dot Markers
- Leaf Stickers
Once we have enough leaves for the activity, I told Vito that we are going to place the exact number of leaves on the mats based on the number that was written on it. He started placing the leaves right away and said “I love this Mommy! I’m like Fletcher!”
He immediately connected the activity to the book that we read days ago, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves. The book is about a young fox (Fletcher) who doesn’t want to let go of the leaves of his favorite tree.
This activity aims to develop fine motor skills through punching leaves from colored cardstocks and the skill of counting for children.
Alternatively, you can also use playdough if you don’t have a maple leaf puncher.
You can also use colored chips or glass nuggets.
And if you want to save ink, you can print the black and white version of our printable instead and use do-a-dot marker.
This single learning pack has so many uses! Not to mention all the fun your child / student can get from counting. You can get this learning material from here or by clicking the image below.
