Sneak Peak: Circulatory System Learning Materials

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

I finally completed our printable learning materials for the heart and the circulatory system.  I’ve been creating booklets and cards for the past few days and I am so happy of the outcome!

The three files will be published in my Pinay Homeschooler Sellfy Shop this FRIDAY.

First file is all about the human heart.  I placed the printed material in a red cardstock to add borders and for the booklet I used  binder rings to compile the pages.

The booklet will be very useful in describing each parts.

Second file is the cardiovascular system of the human body.

And the last one is a file containing all poster-typed diagrams and flowcharts of the elements that compose the Circulatory System, and of course this file also includes activity sheets!

I can’t wait to share the details of each file this FRIDAY.  So don’t forget to check out my blog or my store if you want to get a copy of any of these!

The Tooth Cross Section

Saturday, July 25, 2015

Mavi just had his first visit to the dentist (he is cavity free!) and I’m going to have one of my molar tooth extracted.  So there’s been some talks about teeth in the house and how to avoid tooth extraction like mine.

Fortunately, we have this dental learning set at home which I got from the local store, and we used this to learn more about the tooth anatomy.  This is a closer look of the tooth model and its internal parts.

P1000051

We used our Tooth Cross Section nomenclature cards to learn about the essential parts of the tooth.

Tooth Cross Section

The description cards that you see below is actually part of a booklet which I created.

P1000056

The sole purpose of the definition cards for reading practise and vocabulary, the reason why I always integrate it in our activities.

P1000086i

Mavi is actually exploring this on his own.  What I do is set up the learning table and have him work on the materials.  He examines, compare, read and ask questions.  For the presentation, I would place the nomenclature cards in this wooden box I purchased years ago in the Absorbent Minds UK.

P1000105i

Tooth cross section is part of our dental unit, which I will post later on.  I hope this will inspire you for further exploration of dental study.

By the way, I have a free Teeth Developmental Cards which you can download from here.

If you like this post and wanted to make it as your reference, then  pin it for later!

Thank you!

Human Body Unit: The Internal Organs
The second week of our Science curriculum is all about the Human Body.  The first part of our study is the internal organs.  We’ve tackled this subject a couple of times now and below are the links of our previous studies:

Introducing the Internal Organs of the Body to Kids

Friday, February 7, 2014

We're doing The Human Body this month and part of which is learning about the basic internal organs of our body.  This is a timely subject to tackle as my son has been sickly for the past few days because of the changes in the weather.

I've always wanted to purchase a human torso model to show how these organs look and how they are positioned in the body.  But the price in this side of the world is not in my budget so what I did was to buy PlayDoh that comes in different colors to create our own model using our Internal Organs Nomenclature Cards.

Internal Organs: Puzzle and Nomenclature Cards

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

This is my last post of my Human Body series.

After we go about the internal organs, I made my son do this puzzle which I bought when we were in Singapore.  It’s actually an eraser LOL and I got it for less than a dollar :)DSC_0397 He loves puzzles!

And then we worked on the nomenclature cards which I got from Montessori Print Shop.

Hope you enjoy our Human Body unit study!  Hope to be more creative the next time we visit this unit ;)

Internal Organs of the Human Body

Monday, August 27, 2012

This is the second part of our unit study of the Human Body.  After we have formed our Skeletal System, I introduced to Mavi the internal organs of the human body.  We started with the brain of course...

BRAIN.  I printed a black and white image of the brain and colored it to save ink.  I talked about how important the our brain is, how it controls every senses we have and affects how we think or respond to certain event.  And I added that it is very delicate that’s why we should avoid banging our head so as not to damage the brain.

               DSC_0374 DSC_0375

LUNGS.  Our lungs looked funny because they were too small LOL.  Important thing for him to remember her is that we use our lungs to breath.

               DSC_0377 DSC_0385

Then I showed him how lungs work using a plastic.  He can’t resist though and wanted to try it too.

DSC_0391HEART.  Heart pumps the blood in our body and that it produces a beating sound.  This part he loves the most... listening to my heartbeat! I just hope he still recognizes that sound... he’s listening to it for months while he’s in womb :)

DSC_0386

LIVER, STOMACH, INTESTINES.  This part seems a little complicated to him.  I just described this system on a level of a 4yr old :)DSC_0390

BLADDER.  The organ that holds the urine (waste water) is the bladder.  He’s interested with it because he’s always curious how and why he urinates. DSC_0392

These are the basic organs that I think are essential for my son to learn as he keeps on asking about his body.  I think it’s not that much though... I just picked the ones I know his brain can digest easily.  We’ll definitely revisit this subject next year!

The Skeletal System

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

My son has been fascinated with the human skeletal system.  He’s been singing Dem Bones for months now and enjoys the skeleton dance.  With this, I decided to throw a human body system unit so he can have an overview of what he is made of.

There’s the books which I got from the library.  I am so thankful for our wonderful library, they have an amazing collection of fiction and non fiction books for kids!
