Wednesday, October 5, 2022

Our Digestive System Learning Packet is finally up in our shop, and I'm so excited to share some of the details here with you! As usual, I made this for my elementary and high school kids, so this set is designed to be used by kids from upper elementary.   The aim of this study is to:

  • Understand the process of digestion
  • Identify the organs taking part in the digestive system and know their functions
  • The role of food and  lifestyle in keeping our digestive system healthy

Hands-on Learning on the Human Body for Preschoolers

Sunday, February 18, 2018

Vito is getting more interested in how his body works, especially that a few months ago, he got sick and I have to discuss some important things to him about his health and body.  With this, I started reading to him some of our body books, explaining what happens to the food that he eats, to the water that he drinks, and why he has blood when he has a cut.

Anatomy of a Frog 3D Model

Thursday, September 14, 2017

We love our shark anatomy model (read about it here, Montessori Inspired Shark Study for Kids) so I couldn’t resist getting the frog dissection 3D model for another exploration.  I introduced this educational material when were doing our Frog Unit a few weeks ago.  This anatomy model was intended for my oldest son, but Vito enjoyed learning about it too!

Introducing the Human Skeleton to Preschoolers

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

Vito is 34 months old.

It’s that time of the year when my kids get to see a lot of human skeletons hanging everywhere!  No wonder October is the best time to introduce the human skeleton to your kids.  Vito is in the “what’s that” stage and he’s been asking me a lot of questions lately about these “funny” costumes and the hanging bones.  So I gathered a few old and new learning materials for him so I can introduce these amazing body system.

The Human Skeleton

Friday, October 11, 2013

Hello everyone! Since it's the month of Halloween, we're doing a series of Halloween-related activities.  And my son picked the The Human Skeleton first.  We used our Human Skeleton Nomenclature Cards and a model (bought this at a Euro store).

DSC_1454 We discuss each parts and its function/s.  Here he talks about his hand bones.

We did the three lesson period and here, he matches the picture cards and the label to the control cards.

Since I have multiple pieces of those skeleton models, I cut out the parts, place them on a card stock and added label.  I read the definition of each part of the skeleton as my son observes them using a magnifying glass :)  Then he assembled the pieces (just like a puzzle) to form the entire human skeleton.

One activity he loved the most is the coloring and labeling of his favorite parts.  He enjoys this kind of activity.  This activity sheet is included in the The Human Skeleton file.

Another version of puzzle is the printed skeleton which I downloaded from here.  I told him he can form the skeleton in any way he wants it, like if he wants the skeleton to run, jump, walk or just stand.  You can also get a much bigger version of this puzzle from here.

This his dancing skeleton.

And his standing skeleton.DSC_1530

We  also talk about the foods that makes our skeleton healthy (he's been eating yogurt, cheese and drinking milk religiously since then).

For visual and animation, we watched this video of Make Me Genius.  It helped a lot in understanding how our skeletal system works.

Hoping some of this ideas would help you in your homeschool adventure.  Have a nice weekend everyone!
