Favourite Phonic Games

Monday, March 21, 2016

I always find it hard to get Vito to do alphabet activities with me.  Mavi was already learning how to spell 2.5 years old and although Vito knows the letters and sounds they make, he’s still not at it when it comes to doing the activities.

So I started reading my favourite blogs (since 2010) and came across these activities from NurturingLearning.com.  These activities requires movements which Vito loves to do to keep him engaged in alphabet activities.

One of his favourites is the “jump over the letter cards” whenever Mommy makes the sound.  Here, we’re doing the letters “RAMF”.  Start the activity by doing a 3 lesson period (Montessori) like “ this is the letter R”, “where is the letter R” and “can you point the letter R”.  As expected, Vito didn’t last till the 3rd period so instead of doing it in a sitting manner, I made him jump whenever he identifies the letter.

Oh he enjoyed it very much! He loves jumping over the letters and looks adorable whenever he gets ready!

Another game that we are doing at home is the Swat that Letter.  Similar concept in the previous game except that he’s going to hit the letter cards using a silicone spatula.  The original game of Julie was using a fly swatter which we don’t have, so I made him use the spatula.  He loves this as well!  He keeps asking for more!

The second time that we did this, I was not just making the sound but mentioning objects from our booklets that starts with letters R A M F.

It's so amazing how each child is different. I'm glad you found some fun letter games for your youngest to enjoy.
