Old Tracks New Tricks for Train Enthusiasts

Saturday, March 25, 2017

Oh the boys and I love to play trains! And in fact, I love creating train tracks with them too.  The only problem these days is that, our train sets were long forgotten due to Bruder trucks which they recently received last Christmas. But boy, oh boy, that changed when Old Tracks New Tricks arrived in the mail one day, and my 3 years old upon seeing the book immediately requested to play with his Thomas Train!

So my little one and I read the book first.  I asked him to look around the book for ideas on what we can create.  He absolutely find the book funny! He keeps on pointing to some of the designs made in the book and keeps telling me “I want this, I want this I want this”.

DSC_4179The book is wonderful!  It provides so many great ideas on how to reuse and make use of your old train tracks.  It has loads of beautiful pictures too with tracks and trains talking to each other which the boys find very entertaining.  The text and story is appealing to kids, my little one keeps asking me to read it to him over and over again.

I’m surprised by the amount of ideas in this book! It promotes imagination and creativity to kids by giving them tons of inspirations, showing them how to make use of old tracks and integrate them with other building toys like Magnatiles, Grimm Rainbow Stacker, Duplo and the like.

So I’m sharing some of the snippets of the boys working on their “new tricks”.   I love that both of the boys are able to use the book together.

Here’s another time when my 8 years old decided to try another design, with tower and bridge made from Magnatiles.

Now, one thing that hit me was the idea of using old tracks in forming letters! I’ve been wanting to use this build a letter material but its just too pricey for me.  When I read the book and came across the idea of using tracks, it was like I hit a jackpot! See how Vito happily forms his letters using old tracks!

And we used our trains to trace the letter tracks!!  Isn’t this cool?

I couldn’t recommend this book enough! We love it and has been a daily read for the boys, especially for my 3 years old.

Nothing beats sharing a good book with your brother #oldtracksnewtricks Book from @theinnovationpress
