Go out and enjoy nature!

Monday, May 5, 2014

The weather was really really good this holiday weekend so we spent most of our time in the park.  We're so thankful that we have this wonderful park just 10 minutes away from our place.  The park is HUGE and lots of areas to explore.

If you skim through my blog... this is where we usually go when the weather is good.  I am an outdoor person and was an adventurous kid growing up. I grow up in a tropical country and our house is near the beach so imagine all the adventures I have there. And my boys experience this as well.  But living in a cold country has a lot of limitations especially here that we seldom have Mr Sun.

So in a time like this we just have to go out...

... and play with the trees! xy (1 of 1)-7

.... and check the pond for tadpoles and other insects breeding!

xy (1 of 1)-10

.... and see how the clear water flows in the creek.

Weekend at the Park

Monday, May 27, 2013

We were blessed with a wonderful weather last weekend so we decided to visited a leisure park for rest and recreation :)

First thing we did was of course visit the animals, as my son looooves animals!  We were so happy to see them all out in the open and were eager to entertain the kids.  I was glad that we get to see most of the birds from our Bird Study Unit I.  Rhea, Emu, Turkey, Chickens, Peacocks, Stork etc.  And surprisingly, there were lots of farm and zoo animals as well.

Oh and these are Bisons!! My first encounter with them.... such beautiful creatures!

When we're done with the animals, we proceeded to the activity  area the little boy to have some fun.  And look who's not scared of the Air Jump!

And the highlight of the trip was the pony ride :)  His teacher told me he can't stop talking about it in school LOL.

Bird Watching!

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Oh the weather is just so wonderful today that we decided to skip indoor activities (read our Bird Study Part I)  and do some bird watching and look for some bird's nests :)

And look what we found along the way, feathers!

Hoping to visit the port this weekend so we can see some gulls too!

One Snowy Day

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

All activities were put to a halt when it started snowing a few weeks ago.  Our after school activities would be mainly playing with the snow in the yard or in the open spaces at our estate.

P1100233

The little boy was ecstatic when he woke up one morning with our yard covered with snow.  He couldn’t wait to to go out and play, so we took him out for a little fun before heading to school.

P1100207 P1100215

He couldn’t stop playing!   We’re happy we have plenty of open spaces for him to run around to enjoy the ice. Unfortunately, it started to rain and he doesn’t want to go back home after a few hours in the cold. I have to remind him that it’s not safe to stay too long in the freezing temperature.

We started walking back home but by the time we reached our yard, it stopped raining and he wanted to play a little bit more and asked me if we could make a snow man.

And so we did! I formed the snowman and he’s the one who added the details.  He was so happy and proud. That night he can’t stop telling his Dad all about his snowy day adventure and his snowman :)

Ponds

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

We’re having Ponds Theme this week because we’re spending too much time at the park watching the animals at the park’s pond.

Mavi was so thrilled to see this mini-waterfall!

Our Looong Weekend

Monday, March 19, 2012

Hello everyone! How was your weekend? As I mentioned earlier, our little family went to the city center to “supposedly” watch the parade in celebration of the St. Patrick’s Day.  But look! We can see nothing but sea of green leprechaun hats! LOL.  The parade has already started by the time we arrived and we couldn’t get a decent spot to at least view the parade float.

So we ended walking around, and view the people celebrating LOL.

 DSC_0097

At home, we did a few crafts.. we made a rainbow using our fingers.  It was a total hit!

P1030971

P1030981

And we also made a flag... Ireland’s flag.  I attached this to a stick and we place it on our veranda.

 P1030983

On Mother’s Day (UK and Ireland), we went to the park to play football.  You see, we do a lot of outdoor activities but I don’t usually bring a camera when we play outside... but I realize that I should bring at least our P&S so I can capture precious moments such as these:

Then today is a holiday, so we started our Blue Series for reading.  I forgot to mention that my son has started reading (not pretend) a few weeks ago.  He can read... mostly CVC words.  And I’m happy to say that since he knows “how to do it” already, it’s easier for him this time to blend the letters in the blue series.

DSC_1128

For reading, I borrowed books from the library and am happy to say that they have an amazing collection of reading books for preschoolers.  Currently we’re using this books.  We’re using the Reading Corner Phonics set for grade 1 and at times would include those from grade 2 now that we’re beginning the blue series.

New week.. fresh start! We’re doing Before FIAR this week:  Goodnight Moon.

Happy Monday!

Homeschool Wrap-Up (01.16 – 01.20)

Sunday, January 22, 2012

Last week’s activities includes:

A unit study on Plants and Flowers

DSC_0207 Read about our entire unit here (part 1) and here for part 2.

P1030435

Practice writing and coloring using worksheets.

DSC_0244

I was surprise how much he has improved with coloring even if we haven’t done it for quite a while now.

DSC_0255

Though my son is obsessive with alphabets... tracing letters is not his liking :(

And we also work on some math workbooks (this was given to me by a friend back home).

More Plants and Flower Activities

Friday, January 20, 2012

Supplemental activities for our Plants and Flower theme:

We discussed how buds became flowers.

DSC_0139

Flower puzzle and while completing it, we discussed the different parts by placing the labels on the correct parts.

DSC_0151

This is how it looked like when he completed it.  My bad, I didn’t have any guide/control cards so I I guided him a little where to put the exact location of the stamens.  Though there’s an outline provided on the paper as his guide.

DSC_0166

Other activities include reading books and looking at different types of flowers.  Then we replicate those flowers using our art papers.  He was fascinated with the different shapes and colors of the flower.

flowers

Practicing pincer grasp by pin pricking the flower shape.  This is his first time to do such an activity and wasn’t into it.  And he doesn’t want to prick on the outline... he’s more interested pricking on the spaces :)

DSC_0216

With our “plant” theme... we walked around the estate and discussed the different type of plants that he sees.  And we took a sample of each part (except for the roots)... from flowers to stem. We brought it at home and identified each one juxtaposed the Plants Nomenclature card which I purchased from MPS.

P1030433

See him in action doing the plant’s 3-part cards, paper crafts, coloring the parts of a plant and discussing the life cycle of a plant via a book which was given to him by hi godparents.

plants

Well... ‘twas an activity my son truly enjoyed.  Hopefully, we can revisit this theme by Spring or Summer :)
