The Montessori Geometric Sticks

Saturday, October 21, 2017

We finally get to use our Montessori Geometric Sticks now that Mavi is learning about polygons, triangles and angles.  You can purchase this fantastic learning material at any Montessori shop or in Amazon.  My boys and I are fascinated with this material.  There’s so much we can do with it, from building plane geometric shapes, to letters, and artworks!

Montessori Geography Folders

Monday, October 9, 2017

When I was preparing geography lessons for Mavi years ago, I learned about the importance of Geography Folders. Essentially, these are folders filled with pictures from your home country or continent as well as from other continents. The pictures should depict people engaging in daily life activities, landmarks, food, animals, children, homes, transportation, and villages, if any. Geography Folders are especially useful for studying your continent as they introduce your child to other races, cultures, places, and traditions.

Anatomy of a Frog 3D Model

Thursday, September 14, 2017

We love our shark anatomy model (read about it here, Montessori Inspired Shark Study for Kids) so I couldn’t resist getting the frog dissection 3D model for another exploration.  I introduced this educational material when were doing our Frog Unit a few weeks ago.  This anatomy model was intended for my oldest son, but Vito enjoyed learning about it too!

Indoor Garden Play for Counting Bugs

Monday, May 22, 2017

Vito is 42 months old.
So we are seeing a lot of bugs lately.  Vito is enjoying it!  We do nature walks in the morning to see the honeybees, flies and unidentified flying objects in the field. And we even caught the wasp that went inside the house last week for exploration.  Lately, we would walk our way to Mavi’s school to pick him up.  During these walks, we would count the number of bugs we see in the bushes and trees.  Vito enjoyed it and I thought that we could also do it at home as an extension.  So I made this “garden” setup for him, wherein we will pretend to catch bugs with our tweezers and place the right number in our number cards.

Hands-on Learning on the European Regions

Thursday, November 5, 2015

Mavi is into geography once again and we are revisiting the Continent of Europe.  My approach for this year’s study is to look at Europe through the different regions.  It’s easier to understand and internalize facts when they’re into smaller groups than attacking them as a whole.

So I created these label cards for northern (blue), western (red), southern (orange) and eastern (green) Europe.  The color coding is based on our map in Europe in a Nutshell.  The mini flags seen in the photo is from Flags of Europe printable.

How to Teach Fractions with Manipulatives
Last week, Mavi and I got a little bit of time to work on fractions.  I've been wanting to do this with him but we seldom have some time together because of Vito.  So it took us around 3 days to complete the activities.

Dinosaur and the Land Before Time

Dinosaur Unit Study

My son is obsessed with dinosaurs. Majority of the books he borrowed from the library is about dinosaurs.  His birthday cake was decorated with dinosaurs. So when he begged that we’ll play with dinosaurs, I couldn’t resist.  He reads his dinosaur books every night and is eager to learn all about the beginning of times.  So considering all these factors, I put up an afterschool learning activity about the geological times and the era of dinosaurs.

Here are the activities we worked on this unit study.

Exploring Animals in the Marine Ecosystem
A sudden change in weather made us look into the world of marine animals.  Per usual, we use Safari Toob Animal Figures (Safari Ltd Coral Reef Toob and Toob Toobs Sharks Miniatures ), FREE Marine Animal Cards which I created a long time ago, books from the library (see affiliate list for the details) and some paper crafts for our mini project.

Animal Habitats Cards

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Hello readers! I am happy to present to you my product on learning Animal Habitats which is one of our favorite learning materials at home.

This learning material will help the child learn about the different biomes in the world and the animals that thrive in those habitats.  What inspired me to create this material is that, my son loves to sort out his animal figures according to the places they live. He would ask me "Mom, does tiger live in the forest? or savanna?"  And it's pretty much hard to explain at times why certain animals can thrive in the colder regions and how others survive in the desert.  So I made this learning material so I can answer all of my son's questions.

You can get this printable here, Montessori Inspired Animal World Habitats Learning Pack or click the image below:

Natural Resources and their Products

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

Another extension to our continent unity study is learning about the natural resources that are mined or abundant in certain parts of the world.  This is a new topic that I introduced to Mavi and he definitely loved it.  He was very interested in learning about the products of each continent, what they look like as raw materials and how these materials are processed so the people can use them.

The Animal Kingdom Learning Material

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

While Mavi is enjoying his school camp, I grabbed the opportunity to make this learning material so we can use it in the next few days (when the camp is over) before he goes back to school at the end of April.

I'm so happy that my laminator arrived yesterday and I was busy laminating these cards (thus my absence in blogging).

This is my Animal Kingdom learning material.  It is a PDF file which you can download from here, The Animal Kingdom Learning Pack, or by clicking the pictures below.  It consist of the following:
  • The Animal Kingdom MASTER Chart in A4 SIZE
  • Chart with pictures only (no labels) in A4 SIZE
  • Chart with labels only in A4 SIZE
  • Chart with no pictures and labels in A4 SIZE
  • 15 cards with pictures and labels  to form the chart
  • 15 cards with pictures and  no labels (for 3 part card use)
  • 15 label cards (for 3 part card use)
  • Matching definition cards
The Animal Kingdom Learning Pack
Oh they look so lovely once laminated! Don't mind the lines on that image of the starfish.  That's just my printer who's already low on ink :(

The Animal Kingdom Learning Pack
So the file has 9 invertebrates and 5 vertebrates and they all come with definition cards that you can read with your kids (or let your kids read them if they are already a reader).

The Animal Kingdom Learning Pack
Hope you like it! Thank you!
