Aside from The Bible, do you have favourite books to read with kids that tells about Jesus (if you are a Christian) and Godly stories?

Lent In Our Home
Sunday, March 13, 2016
My son attends a Catholic school so he knows all our religion’s celebrations and traditions. I was raised in a Catholic family and during Lent we do a lot of religious activities at home like processions, daily prayers, participating in the Stations of the Cross, novenas, watching religious films in the church and attending mass and more. I wanted my kids to experience this to understand the meaning of Lent and why we celebrate Easter. So I decided to start a simple Lenten tradition in our home, to focus on Jesus, prayer, meditation and sacrifice.
Color Theory Part I
Thursday, April 4, 2013
Helloooo!! How’s everyone??? I haven’t been in this blog for a week! Oh well, it must be the Easter vacation hangover or probably enjoying much of our Spring break :)
I’m participating in this Spring Blog Hop, it sounds fun! That is why we did colors today to jumpstart our Spring activities :)
I decided to take this one slow, so we only did two color schemes and skipped the colorwheel. I’m using the The ABC’s of Art to discuss the primary and secondary colors (we’ll be doing other colors next). So I took our red, yellow and blue paints to create secondary colors. I made use of cotton buds LOL as our paint brushes. Since we’ll just be mixing paints, it would save me a lot of work since I can dispose them easily rather than using paint brushes where I have to wash them after we use them.
Mine is on the upper portion. I made sure to have my own work too… and surprisingly, I enjoyed it!
With all colors available (primary and secondary), we made a rainbow :) These are the colors that makes a rainbow in order from the colorwheel.
This is my son’s version of rainbow colors.
Next, we’ll do the colorwheel and study other color schemes like complimentary colors, warm and cool colors, and maybe neutral colors as well.

Euro Coins
Monday, April 9, 2012
Before the Holy Week I pulled out a lesson about money and learning how to count/use Euro coins.
I got the coins from ELC which was on sale last Christmas and it was just this month that we get to use it because my son has been playing a lot of “going to the grocery” and pretending to buy something.
Here’s the set-up. The control cards were homemade and the Euro coins we’re using at the moment are 2EU, 1EU, 0.50EU, 0.20EU, 0.10EU, 0.05EU. Since I don’t want to overwhelm him with so much info, I skipped using the 1cents and 2cents.
First I discussed all about the money, and where we usually use it. Then I made him match the coins with the control cards. He did very well!
After which, I cut out these pictures from a magazine and we played the “grocery” game using our Euro coins.
Here he is selecting what he wanted to buy. Then I would tell him how much it cost... say 1Euro. Then he would go back to the table and pick the 1Euro from the pile shown in the picture below. I was surprise that he never missed! He always gives me the right amount!
Now, there were times that he selects more than one item... and that means I added the total amount. Say it cost 3.50Euro, so I would tell him to get a 3.50Euro... and instruct him that the amount is composed of 2Euro, 1Euro and 0.50Euro. He loves loves playing this game! And it’s also a perfect exercise for learning addition.
I am planning to do plenty of money games in the next few days wherein I will focus on learning how to add coins in order to match the total amount. As he progress, I will introduce more denominations including the bills as well.
Happy Easter everyone!

Religions in Asia (with Resources)
Monday, August 11, 2014
Last week we started our Asia Unit Study by looking at the different beliefs and religions of the Asians. Click the link of the image for the product details.
We started off with the presentation of materials and an overview of each religion.
Most of my learning materials come with fact cards. If you might be wondering why, I use these cards as a tool for reading practice for Mavi. At times books are not available and these cards come in handy.
Speaking of books, our library has the best resource for this :) My favourite so far are the books from World of Faiths series. I HIGHLY recommend them if you are looking for books that teaches religion. They are so engaging, easy to read, very informative but not overwhelming to little ones and it has suggested activities to go along with the specific religion of study.
The books on the series are the following [aff. links]:
These are really wonderful wonderful books. If I have the resources, I would want them all. They’re treasures! My son reads them every night.
Now, with the books and cards… I printed a map of Asia and Mavi and I tried to mark the places based on their religions. And look what happened when Mavi encountered the YinYang symbol… he labeled it as Kung Fu Panda LOL.
My next post would be about the craft activities that goes along with this study. So stay tuned!
In addition, we also watched videos of the important celebrations of the three major religions: Christianity, Islam and Hinduism.
Christianity: Easter and Christmas. Here we watched the death and resurrection of Christ.
Islam: Observance of Eid-ul-Fitr
Hinduism: Celebration of Diwali, the Festivity of Lights.

Bible Stories Story Sequencing and Activity Sets
Tuesday, March 22, 2022
If you have been a follower of my blog for a long time, you know that we do lots of Bible stories activities during Lent. I posted the links below of our past Bible activities in observance of Lent. This year, since we've been doing the Story of Easter and Death of Christ for years, I decided to explore other favourite stories of mine as a child with the kids. Read on below to know more about how we use our learning materials at home.
More Dino Activities (Free Activity Sheets)
Friday, March 1, 2013
Aside from this, we also explored the world of dinosaurs through the books we borrowed from the library.
Play the pattern game and graphing game from the dinosaur pack I downloaded from 2 Teaching Mommies.
Oh he loved the graphing game! We used his Legos this time. Last year, we used easter eggs (pretend that it was dinosaur eggs!).
And there’s the playdough of course :)
Last year we also had an exciting activity, we pretended to be scientists and excavate dinosaurs using my dino sensory tub.
Because my son loves his dino toobs so much, I made him a few more activity sheets and since I love my readers, I’m sharing it well. It includes graphic game using some dinosaurs as seen here, and grid game sheet which my son and I enjoyed playing as well.
Enjoy!!

Montessori Inspired April Activities for Preschoolers
Friday, March 24, 2017
I am so excited to share our April activities! We will be revisiting some activities we did in the past, and there are new ones too! I only prepared a few activities for April because (1) we still have to work on Earth Science activity trays (2) it’s Mavi’s Easter vacation so Vito would probably prefer to play with his brother than “home” school with Mommy and lastly (3) weather permits, we’ll be spending most of our days outdoors or do some field trips here or there. Anyway, just to be sure that I have something for Vito to work on in case we needed to stay home, here are some preschool activities for him!
